SATURN V ROCKET MODEL

USA
1:2000
Metal, wood
62,5 × 16 cm (on base)

While there are a thousand ways for a rocket to fail, there is only one way to succeed: launching and getting to its destination. The gigantic Saturn V succeeded not just once, but several times. In the history of mankind, it is by far the largest, heaviest and most powerful rocket ever built. The series type reliably carried two unmanned capsules into space as well as the crews of the Apollo 8, 9 and 10 missions before starting its most memorable flight with the Apollo 11 capsule, carrying astronauts Aldrin, Armstrong and Collins, ready to make history.

At 3:32 pm CET, the magnificent rocket pushed off from Launch Pad 39A at Cape Canaveral in Florida toward the moon. It measured around 111 metres in height. Because of its exceptional size, the NASA engineers feared it could break while being raised. In the end they constructed a building whose sole purpose was to assemble the rocket vertically.

The model presented here is a built-to-scale replica of a Saturn V Rocket, meticulously painted to match the actual craft. It was signed by Walter Cunningham, Charles Duke, Richard Gordon, Edgar Mitchell, Walter Schirra, Günter Wendt, Buzz Aldrin, Fred Haise and Frank Borman, making it one of a kind, and a true collector’s item.
