The painting goes back to a composition from 1615 by Jan Brueghel the Elder, which is in the Royal Collections at Hampton Court (see Klaus Ertz and Christa Nitze-Ertz: Jan Brueghel der Ältere (1568-1625). Critical Catalogue of Paintings, Lingen 2008-10, cat. no. 192, p. 446).
