La Tauromaquia. 1815/16. Edition from 1905. Set of 36 (of a total of 40) sheets. Comprising: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33. With the additional sheets that were first published in 1876: A, B, C, D, E, F, G.
Etchings, aquatint in colours on cream-tone laid paper with watermarks: 'Van Gelder Zonen', 'Cupido auf einem Globus' and 'fleur de lis', as described by Harris for this edition.
28 x 44 cm and 31 x 48 cm.
Harris 204-243. Edition IV (of VII), 1905. - Missing Harris 217, 222, 223, and 224 (sheet 14, 19, 20, 21). The 1905 edition is referred to in Tomas Harris's catalogue raisonné as the best after the first edition. - A very beautiful impression, sometimes slightly yellowed or lightly browned in the mat opening, partly with isolated fox marks; no. 3 and no. 4 have more pronounced foxing. All sheets with traces of previous mounting at the left edge. The prints partly loose, partly mounted into mat at the upper edge. Few to light traces of wear. Overall in beautiful condition.
