Anonymous French illuminator, 15th century.
King David with the harp. Latin text below with 1 large initial D. Framed by rich floral and figural border. Single leaf from a Book of Hours. Gouache, pen and gold on vellum.
Burgundy, circa 1470. Image 12.5 × 9 cm; leaf size 14.5 × 11 cm. Written on both sides. Recto 4, verso 17 lines Gothic Textura. Richly stamped frame heightened with gold. Mounted on backing board, wooden frame, glazed on both sides (28.5 × 24.5 cm; verso with wax seal of framing workshop).
Minimal buckling, light browning and staining in the margins. Overall colours very fresh.
