HEAD OF APOLLO KITHAROIDOS

Greek, Late Hellenistic, 2nd half 2nd century B.C.
Marble carved full round, with sintering. Head of the youthful god Apollo looking slightly downward and to the left. Soft modeling of the face, wavy hair with middle parting, tied into a chignon at the back of the head. Large curl of hair falling to the shoulder. On a later wooden plinth.
H without plinth 26 cm.


Left hairdo and crown repaired, nose restored, chips. Lips heavily chipped.

- German private collection "C. G.", Lower Saxony. Over three generations in the same family possession (according to Galerie Cahn).
- Swiss private collection "D. E.", acquired 2007 (according to Galerie Cahn).
