ELEGANT COMMODE

Rococo, Berne, ca. 1765. By Mathäus Funk (1697–1783).
Walnut and burlwood inlaid in rectangular reserves and frieze fillets. Slightly trapezoidal, three-sided curved and cambered body on a cut-out frame and curved legs. Front with three sans-traverse drawers with brass fluting. Gilt bronze mounts. Drawers lined with Herrnhut paste paper. Moulded edge in "Rouge Suisse" marble top.
99 × 58 × 87 cm.


Restored. Few cracks.

Cf. Hermann von Fischer, Fonck à Berne, Berne, 2001, p. 101, fig. 167 (Type G6) depicts a similar commode with different marquetry.
