17th century follower of ANTHONY VAN DYCK

(Antwerp 1599–1641 London)
Portrait of a woman, probably Duchess Mary Lennox.
Oil on canvas.
126 × 99 cm.

Provenance:
Private collection, Switzerland.

Prof. Dr Karen Hearn, whom we thank for her expert assistance in cataloguing this painting, suggests from a photograph that the painting offered here might be a work by the British painter John Hayls (1600–1679), who copied several works by van Dyck and is known for a portrait of Samuel Pepys (1633–1703) in the National Portrait Gallery in London (inv. no. NPG 211).
