Denis Louis Ancellet made high-quality furniture in a rather austere and classic Louis XVI style, especially small tables, games tables, writing desks, etc. Salverte reports a large console-desserte, inlaid with ebony on lemon wood, which bears the signatures of both Ancellet and Weisweiler. Both signatures are also found on a buffet sold in Paris in 1971. This indicates that Ancellet could have worked at times for the great ebeniste Weisweiler. (Comte François de Salverte, Les ébénistes du XVIIIe siècle, Paris, 1962, p. 3 / Pierre Kjellberg, Le Mobilier français du XVIIIe siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 25).
