CHARLES & RAY EAMES

(1907 – 1978) (1912 – 1988)
RARE DEEP CHAIR, "LKX" model, designed in 1951, early version / prototype of the 1st series for Herman Miller.
Braided steel-wire, lacquered black.
47 × 56 × 67 cm.

The rectangular basic structure, onto which the seat shell is attached, refers to an early production phase. It can be assumed that the item on offer was produced in a small edition in 1952/1953. The later generations of this model, however, are characterized by a cross-shaped frame.

Comparative literature: Mateo Kries et al., "The Eames Furniture Sourcebook", Vitra Design Museum (Ed.), Weil am Rhein, 2017, pp. 202/203 & 206/207 (with illustration of the basic structure).
