Sylvie Fleury was born in Geneva in 1961, where she lives and works today. She is a Swiss performance and installation artist, who, thanks to her strong instinct for staging, enables her works to engage in a dialogue with the space. Fleury is exceptionally gifted at self-promotion and loves consumerism just as much as she debunks it. As an artist she knows no boundaries of material or form and transforms consumer products through minimal distortion into autonomous art objects. Although her preference for fast sleek sports cars and Formula 1 racing appears rather masculine in character, her passion for beauty products and fashion prevails.
"Fashion is like a shield or a prosthetic, so that we can hide or even attract attention. " Sylvie Fleury
Alongside numerous international solo and group shows, in 1993 Sylvie Fleury took part in the opening ceremony of the Venice Biennale, as well as the 1998 São Paolo Biennale. Her works are exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna, amongst other venues. In 2018 Sylvie Fleury was awarded the prestigious "Swiss Grand Award for Art / Prix Meret Oppenheim".
