A TWO-FOLD SHIBAYAMA TABLE SCREEN.
Japan, Meiji period, 20 × 23 × 7 cm.
Magnificent, double-sided decoration of finely crafted shibayama inlays, hira- and takamakie as well as kirikane adorns the inset panels with kinji ground and okibirame covered frames. The two main panels on one side show scenes of various festival preparations, the other side is decorated with a profusion of flower arrangements. Later wooden double box.
