A WOOD FIGURE OF A MONK.
Japan, Edo period, 19th c. Height 25 cm, figure 12 cm.
Painted in dark and light colours with remains of gold painting, eyes inlaid. Seated on an assorted, double lotus base, wearing voluminous robes, both hands holding a string of prayer beads. Two parts. Minor damages.
Provenance: Old Swiss private collection from Southern Switzerland.
