ALTAR WITH TWO BUDDHAS AND LOTUS SUTRA STELE.

Japan, 19th c. Height 46 cm.
Wood with gold, black and red lacquer. Two seated Buddhas in gasshô mudra flank a central pagoda-shaped stele inscribed with the Nichiren Lotus Sutra, supported by koma inu above a stepped, elaborately crafted pedestal. Six parts.


Provenance: Old private collection from Southern Switzerland.
