Japan, late Edo period, height 23.5 cm.
Wood with gold and black lacquer, the eyes, urna and ushnisha inlaid in glass. Buddha figure with serene facial expression and half-closed eyelids, hands on lap in mida no jôin (meditation mudra).
Provenance: Collection of Otto Hüglin (1857-1943), owner of luxury hotels and sanatories. Thence by descent.
