DEIRYU KUTSU (KANSHU SOJUN, 1895–1954): MENDICANT MONKS.

Japan, 1st half of 20th c. 123.5 × 29 cm.
Ink on paper. A pair of hanging scrolls, each depicting a column of monks to collect alms, one leaving, one returning. Signed 'Deiryû' and sealed 'Sôjun' and others. With a single wood tomobako storage box, inscribed and at interior signed. Minor creases. (2)

Provenance: Old private collection from Southern Germany.
The Zen monk and painter Deiryû Kutsu was a disciple of Nakahara Nantenbô (1839–1925).
