A GOLD LACQUER AND SHIBAYAMA-INLAID SQUARE VESSEL.

Japan, Meiji period, height 21 cm.
The body finely worked with fine objects on kinji ground in a combination of mother-of-pearl and stone inlays and parts in hira- and takamakie. The base on four feet decorated with scrolling foliage in gold and silver hiramakie. Silver mounted rim.

Provenance: Old Swiss private collection, purchased before 1970 (no invoice), hence by descent.
