A LACQUER BOX FOR SWEETS (KASHIDANSU).

Japan, 19th c. 7 × 10.5 × 8 cm.
The square body elaborately decorated with the Eight Sights of Lake Biwa (Omi hakkei) in hira- and takamakie. Inside three drawers with cherry blossoms, the lowest bearing two small boxes with maple leaf designs. Silver metal fittings. Inscribed wood box.

Provenance: Old Swiss private collection, purchased around the 1950s (no invoice available), thence by descent.
