A BRONZE FIGURE OF AIYANAR.

South India, 17th/18th c. Height 52 cm.
Cast in three parts, including a flamed aureole. The richly adorned Tamil guardian deity seated on an oval base with his left knee raised and secured by the yogapada. The hair held back by a diadem, embellished with a snake and a crescent moon, and framing the face. Minor chips.

Provenance:
- From an old Geneva collection.
- According to a handwritten inventory this item has been purchased at Christie's on November 17th 1970, lot 92 (probably in London).
