IVORY RELIEF “APOTHEOSIS OF KING LOUIS XIV OF FRANCE”
Dieppe, France, 18th century.
Ivory carved in relief. Round medallion depicting King Louis XIV sitting on a cloud and ascending into the sky. Adorned on the left with the laurel wreath of Nike and on the right with a crown. Below him, warriors, men and a woman falling to the ground, as well as a wolf, a crown and a lion. In a round, gilt metal and wooden frame.
Ø 9.5 cm.
