MORTAR

Persia, 12th century.
Bronze with dark and reddish patina. Octagonal shape on a slightly flared base with a wide bottom and lip. Each side decorated with a medallion in the shape of a mehrab, six with harpies and two with peacocks. The rim and base with decorations in Kufic script on a ground of foliage, the lip additionally decorated with heart-shaped palmette medallions.
Ø 18.5 cm, H 14 cm.
