The Tricolore fountain pen was created in 2002 to mark the 190th anniversary of the French tricolore, symbol of liberty, equality and fraternity and emblem of the Revolution. Only 14 pieces were made by Montblanc's Ateliers Privés Artisan Workshop exclusively for the French market. In addition, there were three more luxurious one-off pieces, a diamond, a ruby and a sapphire fountain pen. These were sold exclusively in the Montblanc Boutique on the Champs-Elysées in Paris. The present fountain pen is the unique one in sapphire. It consists of a lattice of solid 18K white gold over a blue transparent resin body. The cap is adorned with the French tricolore and set with 104 sapphires, diamonds and rubies. The Arc de Triomphe is engraved on the nib.
