CORPUS CHRISTI
Moravia, ca. 1720, probably by the workshop of David III Zürn (1665-1720).
Lime carved all around, originally painted.
H 68 cm.
According to oral tradition, this Corpus Christi comes from the workshop of David III Zürn, who is said to have made it for the parish church in the Moravian town of Römerstadt. The sculpture was purchased in the 1930s as part of the renovation of the church furnishings in Römerstadt. According to a local history book of the parish (only small excerpts available), David Zürn was commissioned to sculpt the altar there. The sources speak of a dispute between Zürn and the carpenter Johann Ehrlich over the delivery of an altar model (court book from 1720).
