FIGURE OF VENUS

Roman, 2nd century A.D. Based on a Hellenistic model.
Bronze with green patina; the eyes inlaid with silver. Standing Venus wearing a tiara and holding a patera (later) in her right hand. On a black base.
H without base 12 cm.


Provenance:
- Swiss Art Dealers (according to Triple Gallery).
- Triple Gallery, Bremgarten bei Bern, 8 December 2004.

According to Prof. Dr. Willers, the figure on offer takes after the Aphrodite types of the Late Hellenistic period in accordance with the ideal prevalent in the 2nd century B.C. (according to Triple Gallery).
