ABRAHAM BLOMMAERT

Abraham Blommaert was a Middelburg-based painter whose works have long been confused with those of Adriaen Bloemaert (c. 1609–1666), son of the Utrecht Mannerist painter Abraham Bloemaert (1566–1651) (see Marten Jan Bok and Marcel Roethlisberger: Not Adriaen Bloemaert but Abraham Blommaert, in: Oud Holland, 110, 1996, pp. 12–34).
Condition:
Oil on panel, consisting of two horizontal planks, verso with five battens. Paint surface in good condition, with a fine network of craquelure in places. Slight colour abrasions along the edges.
Under UV: Retouching along the edges as well as at the horizontal join. Further small retouchings in the sky and foreground. Varnish fluoresces greenish.
Overall condition good.
Dimensions with frame: 54.7 × 72.5 cm.
