LUDWIG VOGEL

(1788 Zurich 1879)
Two studies: 1. A seated woman with cap and large cloak; 2. An oriental figure with a pipe.
Black and white chalk on grey-blue wove paper.
Each numbered in pen and brown ink at lower left: 65 and 73.
Each approx. 40.5 x 29.5 cm.

We are grateful to Dr Heinrich Thommen for his support in the classification and dating of the two costume studies. They were probably created in 1832, when Ludwig Vogel met the Greeks in Munich who were accompanying the Bavarian Prince Otto von Wittelsbach to Greece to crown him King of Greece.

Provenance:
- Estate of Ludwig Vogel, Zurich (old label on the verso).
- Swiss private collection.
