MANTEL CLOCK "AUX TURCS"
Louis XVI, Paris ca. 1775, the bronze probably by Nicolas Bonnet (1740-1789), the dial signed Gille L'aine à Paris (Pierre II Gilles-Quentain, maître 1746).
Chiseled and gilt bronze, and blackened wood. Cylindrical case with two Turkish soldiers leaning against it. Rectangular wooden base with recessed leaf friezes, the corners decorated with lion heads, on paw feet. White enamel dial. Movement with anchor escapement, striking the 1/2-hour on bell. Pierced hands (repaired). 1 key.
H 38 cm.
- Bronze with cracks and small repairs.
- Gilding rubbed.
