Louis XVI, Paris ca. 1775, the bronze probably by Nicolas Bonnet (1740-1789), the dial signed Gille L'aine à Paris (Pierre II Gilles-Quentain, maître 1746).
Chiseled and gilt bronze, and blackened wood. Cylindrical case with two Turkish soldiers leaning against it. Rectangular wooden base with recessed leaf friezes, the corners decorated with lion heads, on paw feet. White enamel dial. Movement with anchor escapement, striking the 1/2-hour on bell. Pierced hands (repaired). 1 key.
H 38 cm.

- Bronze with cracks and small repairs.
- Gilding rubbed.

Another model - but with the same design as the clock on offer - from a private collection, is depicted in: Jean-Dominique Augarde, Les ouvriers du Temps, Geneva, 1996, p. 301, Ill. 228. The bronze parts of that clock are attributed to Nicolas Bonnet, with a movement by Crosnier.
