LOT OF TURKISH REDWARE

Istanbul, Ottoman Empire, last quarter of the 19th century
Red clay with engraved ornamental bands, with a polished and ground surface and cold painted in silver and gold. Comprising two cups and two saucers and a tea bowl.

The world exhibitions of the 19th century also presented the European public with new types of oriental earthenware from Egypt and Turkey. From this red Turkish pottery, clay pipes were especially well known, which were presented in Paris in 1867 and in Vienna in 1873 and were obviously an important trade item at that time (W. Neuwirth, Böttgersteinzeug, Yixing und Andere Rote Ware, Vienna, 1982, p.355 -356).
