SMALL KNIFE

French, end of the 16th century.
Finely cut and engraved iron handle, decorated with foliage and gilt. Edged centerpiece with mother-of-pearl inlays, engraved in a diamond pattern. The handle end in the shape of a capital with chiselled foliage and with a dragon's head. The blade bolster decorated with a leaf wreath. Blade with tip on the cutting edge and with a ridge on one side, the entire surface etched with gilt tendril decoration. The base of the blade engraved on both sides with fleur-de-lys in an oval medallion with a wreath of leaves.
L 12.8 cm.
