FORK

French, 16th century
Oval iron fork handle tapering to the fork bolster, engraved with figurative decoration. Remnants of gilding. Beveled and stepped end with engraved rosette. Recessed fork bolster. Conical fork neck with rounded shoulder, oval pointed fork tines.
L 15.7 cm.

With remnants of gilding. Wavy tines, one shortened.

Cf. for a fork of similar shape with a beveled end: Victoria and Albert Museum/Worshipful Company of Cutlers of London. Masterpieces of Cutlery and the Art of Eating. London, 1979. p. 24, No. 98, described there as "Italian, 16th century".
