On the basis of a photograph, Dr. Birgit Schumacher has identified the present painting as a copy from the close circle of Philips Wouwerman and compared it with a composition from 1645, "Travellers in Landscape with Staling Horse", which is currently located in a private collection (oil on panel, signed, 33 x 38.2 cm, see Schumacher, Birgit: Philips Wouwerman, Gent 2006, Cat. No. A381, p. 321).
