DECORATIVE VASE “JUPITER AND ANTIOPE”
Napoleon III, Paris, late 19th century.
Gilt bronze, partly with a brown patina. The bowl designed as a ship with a mythological frieze decoration. A sleeping naked nymph, Antiope, as a figure on the finial, and Jupiter in the form of a satyr on the volute handle. The bow with a winged chimera with a forked tail. Recessed oval base decorated with a frieze.
L 41 cm, H 31 cm.
Patination partly rubbed and tarnished. Scratches. Smaller dents and casting flaws.
