Inspired by the sculptures of his master Henri Laurens, the timeless bronzes of Constantin Brancusi and the organic forms of Hans Arp, Baltasar Lobo finds his own formal language. "La source" is a typical sculpture by the Spanish sculptor among his mature late work. As is often the case with Lobo, this bronze depicts a female figure. Our lady lies on one elbow and turns towards the viewer, faceless. Lobo, as a master of volume, manages to create a harmonious figure through his striking use of sinuous lines and gentle curves in combination with the smooth surface.
