Dr Klaus Ertz has dated this still life to the 1670s (see lit.) and compares it in terms of composition and style with a still life with fruits, tazza, squirrel and stoneware jug by Jan van Kessel the Elder, formerly in the Harold Samuel collection in Cambridge (see Ertz and Nitze-Ertz 2012, cat.no. 468).
