FRAGMENT OF A “MILLE-FLEURS” TAPESTRY

Possibly Franconian, ca. 1450/60.
A man and a woman in a garden with opulent flowers and a reclining animal. Landscape with a village in the background. Later red border.
54.5 × 108 cm.

Provenance:
Swiss private collection, acquired on 20 January 1956 (according to the Seller).

The dating and the geographical attribution are based on a comparable tapestry depicting a fountain scene in the Bavarian National Museum, Munich.
