ANNUNCIATION OF MARY

Limoges, ca. 1600.
Polychrome enamel painting and gold drawing. Mary kneeling at the lectern under a canopy, the angel of the Annunciation appears on the left. Inscription AVE GRATIA PLENA. In a gilt bronze frame from the same period, in an architectural portico form with an applied angel's head. Above, a blessing God the Father. Verso with old collection labels and inscriptions: C.H.Z. 1082 and 234 A.R.N.C.
Plaque 7.5 × 6 cm, with frame 15.5 × 11 cm.


The frame and the enamel plaque varnished, the enamel probably with restorations. Repair to the suspension knob.

Probably assembled later, the frame probably from a former Pax.
