Christ on the Mount of Olives. Sheet 3 of the Great Passion. Circa 1496/97.
Woodcut on laid paper with watermark (unidentified).
Monogrammed in the block on lower margin in the centre: AD.
39 x 28 cm.
Bartsch 6; Schoch/Mende/Scherbaum 156; Meder 115 edition after 1511, probably d (of f, Augsburg edition 1675). - A predominantly strong and even impression with border line. The paper slightly browned, with minimal foxing and light handling traces. Scattered tears in the margins which have been closed. A tiny hole above the head of Christ. Verso with remains of paper along the edges from a previous backing sheet. Old reinforcing with paper strips parallel to the left margin. Despite these issues, a good overall impression.
