Provenance: Collection of Regina Spelman

Gunter Sachs, born in Gstaad in 1932, was the son of the industrial tycoon Willy Sachs. In the 1960s and 1970s he became world famous for his extravagant lifestyle. His parties were so legendary, they turned the sleepy harbour town of St Tropez, one of his favourite vacation spots, into a jet-set destination. Due to numerous liaisons with the most beautiful women of his time, as well as his (very short-lived) marriage to Brigitte Bardot, he was considered the playboy par excellence.

The watch presented here was gifted by him to the famous Munich model and ‘it’ girl Iris Gras, who was known as the ‘Fräuleinwunder’ of the post–war time and with whom Sachs shared a lifelong friendship. It is a woman’s Cartier Tank Cintrée. This model was designed by Louis Cartier in 1921 and was the first variation of the classic Cartier Tank. Compared to the latter, the case of the Cintreé is longer and ergonomically curved. With this curved shape, it perfectly hugs the contours of the wrist and is extremely comfortable to wear.

This watch is in fantastic condition. The yellow gold case, with classic Roman numerals, as well as the cognac-coloured leather strap and the iconic sapphire cabochon on the winding crown make this rare and beautiful collectible a truly exceptional addition to any collection.
