MADONNA OF THE ASSUMPTION

Upper Rhine or Strasbourg, 1st half to middle of the 16th century.
Carved lime, verso hollowed and painted. The Mother of God with her hands folded in prayer standing on a cloud and ascending to heaven. The hair is parted and laid in long wavy strands over the chest and sides.
H 165 cm.

Hands probably replaced, hairline on the right side incomplete. Paintwork in part retouched. Wormholes. Originally probably with crown.
