LARGE GROUP UNDER THE CROSS IN AN ALTAR SHRINE

Gothic, France, probably Burgundy, ca. 1500.
Probably oak, carved, hollowed and closed on the back. Mary and John are flanking the crucified Christ figure in an altar shrine. The altar shrine with pierced tracery.
Mary: H 115 cm; John: H 116 cm; Christ: H 127 cm. Total dimensions 192 × 32 × 135 cm.


The figures and the shrine are probably not from the same set, numerous losses & cracks. Retouches, the arms of the Christ figure, possibly supplemented.

Provenance: Private collection, Suisse romande, from the Château de Courtaney à Avry, Fribourg.
