A PAIR OF CANDLESTICKS

Zurich, 2nd quarter of the 18th century. Hans Jakob Locher I.
Octagonal stepped foot. Baluster shaft decorated with bands and featuring heads in medallions. The nozzle decorated with foliage all around.
H 21.5 cm, 635 g.


Provenance:
- Swiss private collection.

A candlestick by the master craftsman of comparable design has been on permanent loan to the Collection of the Swiss National Museum since 1908 (Dep. 2228). This is illustrated in:

As Hanspeter Lanz points out in the 2004 publication, the piece in the Landesmuseum is based on a French model. Such a direct adoption of a French model is rather unusual for the Zwinglian Zurich.
