FRITZ WOTRUBA

Bronze, gold-brown patina.
Signed and numbered on the rear right corner: Wotruba 5/7.
On the interiour with the foundry mark: GUSS A. ZOTTL WIEN.
H 63.4 cm.

The torso was one of the most important themes in Fritz Woruba's art, already beginning in the 1920s. Created in 1969, the bronze offered here is therefore a late work. It represents the culmination of the artistic transformation of the depiction of the human form, from a figurative to an abstract manner. Another example of this figure can be found in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
