The torso was one of the most important themes in Fritz Woruba's art, already beginning in the 1920s. Created in 1969, the bronze offered here is therefore a late work. It represents the culmination of the artistic transformation of the depiction of the human form, from a figurative to an abstract manner. Another example of this figure can be found in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
