COMMODE "EN TOMBEAU"

Louis XV, Paris ca. 1760. Signed L. Boudin and with the guild stamp. Léonard Boudin, maître in Paris 1761.
Tulipwood and purpleheart, inlaid in reserves. Front with five drawers arranged in three rows. Bronze mounts. Grey-white marble top with a shaped edge.
131 x 66 x 85 cm.

Losses and restorations. Old bronze mounts, but probably replaced. Locks later.

A beautiful chest of drawers "en tombeau". A chest of drawers by Léonard Boudin with an almost identical design and marquetry is illustrated in: Pierre Kjellberg: Le mobilier français du XVIIIe siècle. Paris 1989, p. 93.
