In 1939 Prof. Antonio Morassi, former director of the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan, had identified the painting as a work by Gaspare Dizianis (copy of statement available). In 1966 Dr. Hermann Voss also confirmed the authenticity of the work, based on a photographic examination (copy available). Dr. Cornelia Syre, former curator at the Munich Pinakotek has now also confirmed the authenticity having examined it in the original.
