TABLE BELL,
so-called "campanella da tavola", Renaissance, signed JOSEPH DE LEVIS VER(ona) F(ecit) (Joseph de Levis, according to historical sources between 1577 and 1605), Verona, end of the 16th century.
Burnished bronze. Some losses.
H 15.5 cm.
Provenance:
- from a private collection, Switzerland.
A very similar table bell is part of the Collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and depicted in: C. Avery, Joseph de Levis & Company, Renaissance Bronze-founders in Verona, London 2016; p. 42 (Fig. 43). A further table bell with in part identical decorations is part of the Collections of the Fondazione Miniscalchi Erizzo in Verona and depicted in: ibidem, p. 103 (Lot No. 8).
