LACQUERED LADY'S WRITING DESK,

in the style of Louis XV, signed MILLET A PARIS (Jean Millet, active between 1853 and 1918), Paris, ca. 1880/90.
Tulipwood and rosewood, in veneer and lacquered all–around in the "goût japonais"; idealized park and pagoda landscape with a group of figures on a black ground. Front with hinged writing surface, the inside lined with brown leather. Fitted interior with compartments and drawers, secret compartment. Opulent matte and polished gilt bronze mounts and sabots. 1 leg repaired. Free–standing.
