PAIR OF PAINTED PEDESTALS "AUX GUIRLANDES", in the style of Louis XVI, Paris. Wood, fluted and finely carved garlands and polychrome painted "en faux alabastre" and "en faux Brèche d'Alep". Front with prominent garland application. 75.5x33x79.5 cm. Provenance: - from an English collection.

Holz kanneliert sowie fein beschnitzt mit Girlanden und polychrom gefasst "en faux alabastre" sowie "en faux Brèche d'Alep". Rechteckiger Korpus mit gekehltem Kranz und leicht gebauchter Front mit markanter Girlandenapplikation auf hoher Sockelplatte. 75,5x33x79,5 cm.
Provenienz: Aus einer englischen Sammlung. Das angebotene Paar offenbart mit der markanten Girlandendekoration die sehr frühe Formensprache des französischen Neoklassizismus; als wohl prachtvollstes Beispiel soll das berühmte Bureau-Plat des A.L. Lalive de Jully erwähnt werden, das sich heute im Musée Condé in Chantilly befindet. Es ist abgebildet in: A. Forray-Carlier, Le Mobilier du Musée du Château de Chantilly, Dijon 2010; S. 56-59. In der erwähnten Sammlung Lalive de Jully befanden sich auch vier, ebenfalls "en faux marbre" gefertigten Postamente mit analogen Girlanden. Diese sind abgebildet in: J. Whitehead, The French Interior in the Eighteenth Century, London 1992, S. 97.
