PAIR OF RELIEFS, Louis XVI, France, end of the 18th century. "Carrara" and "Giallo di Siena" marble. Allegorical depictions: the war god Mars followed by the winged victory goddess Victoria with destroyed temples and pillars in the background. Inscribed: "La guerre suivie de la victoire". The muse Klio next to Pax, the goddess of peace with a cornucopia, and a landscape of fields and plough in the background. Inscribed: "L'histoire et la paix". Approx. 44x36 cm.
