‘Explorers on the Moon’ is the seventeenth volume of The Adventures of Tintin, the comics series by Belgian cartoonist Hergé. The original comic book was published in 1950. For its day, it was considered quite accurate, although with obvious simplifications, in terms of the physics and technology involved in spaceflight. The author wanted to make the story as realistic as possible and extensively researched rockets and space travel.
Then in 1959, the first animated series with hand-drawn animations based on the comics appeared. It consists of twenty-two five-minute-long episodes.
Presented here is an original drawing of the animated series from the Raymond Leblanc Belvision studio archive. The drawing of Captain Haddock in his space suit is on ‘Riverside Bond’ paper. Drawn in pencil with some shading in red crayon, it also contains various instructions to the animators.
