Our thanks to Ellis Dullaart of the RKD, The Hague, who has confirmed the authenticity of the painting on the basis of a photograph. She dates the painting to the mid-1640s, and states that it can be compared stylistically with landscapes such as those in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (inv. no. 64.65.1 or inv. no. 32.100.6).
