A CUP AND SAUCER WITH CHINOISERIE DECORATION IN SILVER
Meissen, c. 1740. Painting in the Seuter workshop in Augsburg.
Of spouted form, “Café au lait” ground, painted in gold and silver. Underglaze blue sword marks.
D 11 cm.
The silver decoration oxidised and the gilding rubbed, spout with small chip.

With this form, the hot drink was poured through the spout into the saucer, from which it would then be drunk (Den Blaauwen 2000, p. 119 cat. 68).
